Following the great success of FFVII, Final Fantasy VIII was released by Square with the ambition of winning its predecessor in 1999. It is the eighth main installment in the Final Fantasy Series.

The game takes place in a world called Balamb Garden and follows the story of Squall Leonhart, a student at the garden who becomes a member of an elite military group called SeeD, and his allies as they fight against the sorceress Edea and her followers. Unlike the previous version, this time the plot of FFVIII is more emotional and the gameplay is also significantly more vivid.

The game features a unique combat system called the Junction System, a diverse cast of characters, and a deep and complex storyline. It has received positive reviews and considered as one of the best RPG on PS1. It has a significant impact on the industry and still has a large fan base today.
