Super Mario World 2 – Yoshi’s Island is a platform game developed by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It was released in 1995 and is the prequel to Super Mario World.
The game tells the story of the Mario brothers, Mario and Luigi, who are born in the Mushroom Kingdom. However, shortly after his birth, they are kidnapped by the evil Magikoopa Kamek, who works for the ruler of the Koopa Kingdom, Bowser. But before they can be captured, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi accidentally fall in and are discovered by a group of friendly Yoshis. The Yoshis decide to raise the Mario brothers and embark on a journey to return them to their parents while avoiding Kamek and his minions.
In the game, players control Yoshi, a cute dinosaur, who must navigate through a variety of levels, each with their own unique obstacles and enemies, in order to return Baby Mario and Baby Luigi to their parents. Along the way, Yoshi can swallow enemies, lay eggs, and use a variety of abilities like flapping, jumping, and ground slamming to progress through the levels. Yoshi can also collect various power-ups such as mushrooms and stars to gain new abilities and extra lives.
The game features 48 levels in total, divided into six worlds, each with its own theme, such as jungle, caves, and clouds. The game is known for its clever level design, challenging gameplay, and unique art style, using a crayon-like graphic style.
